V&A Profile: Kevin J. Krajewski, P.E. As Manager of V&A Consulting Engineers’ Environmental Monitoring Services Division, Kevin Krajewski brings to this critical role both a strong academic background and a remarkable wealth of practical field experience. Since joining V&A in 1996 Kevin has personally visited, inspected, and developed engineering recommendations and/or designs for more than 2,000 water and wastewater structures. Most of this work has involved the testing, assessment, measurement, and development of improved rehabilitation strategies for water and wastewater facilities, and has helped numerous sanitary districts and sewer treatment facilities identify their needs for improvements of their assets __________________________
As Manager of Environmental Monitoring Services, Kevin has responsibility for the overall management of the division, which includes securing and managing contracts; running and managing the projects through completion; reviewing invoices and preparing project completion reports; and marketing his division and developing proposals for new projects. One of Kevin’s major areas of activity for the past five years has been environmental flow-monitoring projects for sanitary sewer collection systems, including management of several large flow-monitoring efforts involving anywhere between 10 and 40 flow meters and rainfall monitors for the collection of both wet and dry weather flow. With both rainfall data and sanitary sewer flow data, a correlation between rainfall and the flow in the sanitary sewers can be determined. High ratios between dry and wet weather flows may indicate greater defects within the collection system where rainwater can find its way in. Kevin has led projects of this type for
Currently, Kevin is directing several long- and short-term projects designed to improve the level of service provided to V&A’s clients, including development of an improved methodology for utilizing remote monitoring devices to track meter performance in the field. He is also currently at work on an analytical review of computer-based hydraulic models in order to identify the best ways to use field-verified data. A model or “scatter plot” will be created to improve the overall reliability in predicting actual field conditions. “Scatter plots can be used to determine a correlation between flow level and flow velocity in a system,” he explains, “or between flow level and flow volume. This approach disregards the possible impact of flow acceleration or deceleration on these correlations, yet we know from experience that accelerating or decelerating flow can alter the system flows. ______________________________________________________________________ V&A Consulting Engineers |
